Dental Technology

Dentist reviewing digital x-rays with a patientWhen it comes to cutting edge dental technology we at Michael Regan, DMD Family, Cosmetic & Implant Dentistry are committed to bringing the latest in proven and safe dental technology to our patients.

Digital X-rays

Everyone is familiar with x-rays—they allow us to see past the soft tissues in your mouth so that we can see what’s going on with your teeth and bone. X-rays (also known as radiographs) have been used for decades to give medical and dental professionals the ability to see past the outer layers of your body and focus on what forces are affecting them within. This is a great way to catch issues while they are still in the formative, preventable stages. Now, digital x-rays give us an even better way to ensure your continued oral health.

Standard x-ray machines were slow and imprecise and exposed patients to a decent amount of radiation. The development of a standard x-ray took a fair amount of time, so if there was an issue with the x-ray process we wouldn’t know until after it was too late. Traditional x-rays were also only so precise, leaving us a considerable amount of guesswork.

Digital x-rays
Do away with all of the inconveniences of traditional x-rays and offer some powerful tools to allow us even more insight into your mouth. Digital x-rays expose patients to 1/5th the amount of radiation of a traditional x-ray. Further, they are viewable within seconds of being taken. We can even share them with you via a computer monitor. Using the monitor, we can share the x-rays of your mouth with you in high definition to allow you to see precisely what and where we are referring to in your mouth.

iTero Intraoral Camera

The iTero intraoral camera is an amazing tool that allows us to share a high-definition video stream of your mouth with you in real-time. It isn’t always easy to elaborate exactly where an issue is within your mouth or exactly what you should be doing to take care of any issue that we find. Using this tool, we can simply show you exactly what we are referring to!

The iTero camera is roughly the size and shape of a toothbrush and comes equipped with a light so that we can illuminate the dark recesses of your mouth.

Ultrasonic Scalers

Ultrasonic scalers are a tool that you are probably familiar with but just don’t know it yet. When you hear a high-pitched noise while we are working on your mouth that’s the ultrasonic scaler hard at work. This tool uses ultrasonic vibrations and a special fluid to break up tough tartar buildups.

When the bacteria within your mouth is not brushed and flossed away it will accumulate on your teeth as what we refer to as plaque. Plaque is a sticky substance that can harm your teeth. If this plaque isn’t washed away, soon it will become a much harder substance, known as tartar. Tartar is impossible to remove with just brushing and flossing, so we use the ultrasonic scaler to break it up and wash it away.
